Why These Studies?
Music has a unique way of reaching the heart.
A melody can stay with us long after the song ends. A lyric can give words to emotions we have struggled to express. Sometimes a song opens a door that a conversation never could.
But songs have limits.
A four-minute song cannot fully explain the richness of God's Word, nor should it try.
The purpose of STORMVAST has never been to replace Scripture with music. It has always been to use music as an invitation into Scripture.
That is why every song is accompanied by a Study.
Each Study begins with the song but intentionally leads beyond it, into the biblical passages that inspired it. Together, they explore the historical context, theological meaning, practical application, and ultimately the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
Whether you are listening on your morning commute, reading during your quiet time, discussing these Studies with friends, or simply exploring questions about faith, my prayer is the same:
May the songs stir your heart.
May God's Word shape your mind.
May both lead you closer to Christ.
The song is the invitation.
Scripture is the destination.
Introduction
Every person is searching for something.
- Some search for purpose.
- Some search for freedom.
- Some search for forgiveness.
- Some search for peace.
- Some search for hope that will last when life falls apart.
The Bible tells one story that answers every one of those longings.
It is the story of a holy God who created us, loved us, pursued us after we wandered, and made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ.
Every song on the STORMVAST album reflects a different part of that story.
Some songs celebrate God's power and faithfulness. Some wrestle honestly with fear, doubt, suffering, and failure. Some remind us that God still delivers, still forgives, still calls people home, and still transforms lives by His grace. Others lift our eyes toward the hope that awaits everyone who belongs to Christ.
Rather than telling one continuous story, these songs are snapshots of the Christian life. Each one explores a different biblical truth, a different season of faith, or a different reminder of God's character. Together, they paint a picture of the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
Taken together, these songs are not intended to present a complete systematic theology, nor are they meant to replace careful study of Scripture. They are artistic reflections on biblical truth, written to encourage listeners to open their Bibles and discover the greater story God has revealed.
Each Study follows that same purpose.
We will explore the biblical passages that inspired the song, examine them in their historical and literary context, consider what they teach about God's character and His work of redemption, and ask how those truths shape the way we live today.
One theme ties every Study together:
God is faithful.
Whether His people are trapped in slavery, standing before giants, walking through grief, running from home, waiting between the "Amen" and the answer, or simply whispering the name of Jesus when no other words remain, God continues to meet His people with truth, grace, mercy, and hope.
That hope is ultimately found in one person.
Jesus Christ.
The Bible is not primarily a collection of disconnected stories or moral lessons. From Genesis to Revelation, it points to Him. Every promise, every rescue, every sacrifice, and every act of redemption find their fulfillment in Christ.
As Jesus Himself said:
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6 (ESV)
My prayer is that these songs do more than inspire you.
I pray they encourage you to open God's Word, encounter Jesus more deeply, and discover that the greatest hope any of us can find is not in ourselves, but in Him.
A Personal Note
Every song on this album was written from my own perspective.
I am writing as a Christian man, a husband, a father, and someone who is still learning what it means to follow Christ faithfully. Naturally, those experiences shape the stories I tell and the questions I wrestle with throughout these songs and Studies.
That does not mean these Studies are only for men.
The gospel is for everyone.
Every person shares the same deepest need for forgiveness, redemption, hope, and reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.
My hope is simply to write honestly from the life God has given me. If these songs encourage someone to trust Christ more deeply, return to Him after wandering, endure suffering faithfully, or discover His grace for the first time, then they have accomplished exactly what I hoped they would.
These Studies are not intended to replace your own time in God's Word, the teaching of your local church, or the wisdom of faithful biblical pastors and teachers.
Think of them simply as one believer inviting another to open the Bible together.
The perspective is personal.
The invitation is for everyone.
Ultimately, these Studies are not about becoming a better version of ourselves.
They are about knowing Jesus Christ, the One who saves sinners, restores the broken, strengthens the weary, and promises to make all things new.
Scripture Translation
Unless otherwise noted, all Scripture quotations in these Studies are taken from the English Standard Version (ESV).
Scripture is the foundation of every Study. While the songs reflect biblical themes through artistic expression, the Bible itself remains the final authority for every truth explored throughout these Studies.
Readers are encouraged to open their own Bible and read each passage in its full context before continuing through the Study.
How to Use These Studies
1. Listen
Begin by listening to the song. Allow the lyrics to introduce the theme before opening your Bible.
The song is the invitation. Scripture is the destination.
2. Read
Read the primary passage in its entirety before continuing through the Study. Whenever possible, read the surrounding chapter as well.
Wisdom is best understood in context.
3. Study
Each Study explores the biblical context, the meaning of the passage, how the song reflects biblical truth, how Christ fulfills and illuminates that truth, practical application for everyday life, and questions for personal reflection or group discussion.
Every Study concludes with a brief Theology & Doctrine Review. This is not because these reflections are authoritative, but because I want to hold my own writing accountable to Scripture.
4. Reflect
Take time to answer the reflection questions honestly. This is not merely an exercise in gaining knowledge. It is an invitation to walk more closely with Christ as His Word continues to shape your heart.
The Studies
These Studies follow the songs in the same order as they appear on the STORMVAST album.
Each Study stands on its own and can be read independently, but together they explore many of the central themes of the Christian faith: grace, redemption, courage, perseverance, repentance, hope, prayer, heaven, and the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Whether you begin with the first song or jump to the one that speaks most to your heart, my prayer is the same:
May every Study lead you back to God's Word.

Test everything against God's Word.
